The Investigation Division is comprised of two detectives at this time. Det. Troy Palmer and Det. Bill Hill. The responsibilities of the Investigation Division are to investigate all felonies (Burglary, larceny -over $1000.00, fraud, forgery, homicide, suicides, illegal drug activity, sexual assaults, child abuse, missing persons, Internal Affairs, etc.) Other tasks that the detectives are responsible are evidence custodian (the officer who is in charge of all evidence.) Surveillance of illegal activity where needed Crime scene management of all of the above mentioned cases. The Investigation Division also processes evidence from the crime scene (i.e. seizing evidence, latent print, biological collection, etc.)

The detectives are trained to handle all of the various felony cases and work hand-in-hand with the street patrol, DCI, FBI, ATF, DEA and any other department that needs assistance through out the state and some times through out the United States.

The Rawlins Police Department investigators are unique when compared to larger departments. The detective will handle the case from the time the detective receives the initial report form the responding officer clear through the adjudication process.
