The primary responsibility of the Community Resource Officer is the enforcement of the City of Rawlins' nuisance ordinance. Enforcement of this ordinance is accomplished through activities that promote a "Good Neighbor, Good Community" philosophy. Legal enforcement is a secondary tool that may be used when difficult circumstances are encountered. The initial focus of enforcement activity is the removal of derelict and abandoned vehicles in the community. The City currently offers removal of abandoned vehicles from private property without cost or obligation to the property owner.

The immediate effects of enforcement on the nuisance ordinance will be to protect the health, safety and well being of the citizens of Rawlins. Other additional benefits include a better visual image of the City, increased property values and increased economic development by those who see Rawlins a desirable place to live, work and play.
