| The Rawlins Police
Department's Communications Department is staffed with five full
time dispatchers. Dispatch centers are usually the hub or "Back Bone" of a police department and
the Rawlins Police Department Communications Division is no exception! The communications
division doesn't rotate shifts as each dispatcher is appointed a regular shift. These shifts might
fluctuate here and there but each dispatcher has two regular scheduled days off per week.
Communications Supervisor, Barbara Black also fills in when shifts need to be covered. There is
always work to be done during the "quiet" times, such as logging bench warrants, subpoena's,
sending e-mails, and, of course answering the life line that is sure to ring. Communications duty
is to answer all calls for assistance and aid from animal calls and medical calls to stressful
emergency calls. The records department is managed by Barbara Black. Each dispatcher is
cross-trained and rotated through the records department monthly. The records department processes
arrest reports, court documents, citations and background checks daily.Christine Makinen is the
9-1-1 Public Relations Coordinator. She is responsible for arranging tours of the department for
pre-school and elementnary students along with their teachers. Christine shows 9-1-1 videos and
hands out educational 9-1-1 literature to each student. |
