Control works with the Rawlins Police Department under the direction of the Police Chief.
Presently, there are two full time officers. Animal Control's responsibilities are to respond
to all animal related calls including, but not limited to, picking up stray, at-large animals
within the city limits, removing nuisances, assisting in pet care education, writing citations
and testifying in court. Animal Control also assists Police Officers when animals need
removed or restrained. Animal Control also operates and cares for the local Animal Shelter.
At the Shelter, ACOs take in surrendered and misplaced pets, either returning them to
their owners or placing them up for adoption. Rawlins Animal Control is currently working with
a non-profit organization, Pet Partners
of Carbon County, with a goal of a new facility in an attempt to lessen the number
of unwanted animals that are euthanized. |
